CPP presents award-winning drama Bill W. and Dr. Bob

City Park Players is pleased to present an award-winning drama by Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey, entitled Bill W. and Dr. Bob.  Directed by Ty Cedars, this production opens July 25 on Hearn Stage in Downtown Alexandria.  This inspiring play features local actors John Prince, Jill Dupont, Allen and Rebecca Rowlen, Mike White, Craig Jones, Caroline Randall, and Kate Febuary.

Based on the lives of two real people, Bill W. and Dr. Bob tells the amazing story of the two men who pioneered Alcoholics Anonymous, and of their wives, who founded Al Anon. During the roaring '20s, New York stockbroker Bill Wilson becomes a hopeless drunk. Dr. Bob Smith, a surgeon in Akron, Ohio, has been a secret drunk for thirty years, often going into the operating room hungover and high on sedatives. His family has tried everything to no avail. Through an astonishing series of events, Bill and Bob meet on Mother's Day of 1935, eventually developing a relationship that keeps each other sober.

Bill W. and Dr. Bob is a drama that delivers humor while telling the inspiring true story of the founding of AA and the healing power of human connection. Nearly eight decades later, having never promoted itself, AA boasts an estimated total of more than two million members worldwide.

Bill W. and Dr. Bob performances continue July 25-August 4 - Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:30pm on the Hearn Stage in Downtown Alexandria.  Tickets range from $5-15, and are on sale now at www.cpptheatre.com and will be available 30 minutes before each performance in the lobby of Kress theatre.  For reservations and more, please email cityparkplayers@gmail.com or call 318-484-4478.
